Katara Bending Study Sketches by =Nylak:iconNylak:

Artist's Comments

So I'm peripherally involved in a "secret project" that more or less requires the artists to be able to accurately reproduce the Avatar art style. If you hadn't noticed...I can't draw in that style. SO I'M PRACTICING. And since I'm madly in love with Katara, I'm using her as my main subject.

Practicing some bending sequences, mainly to figure out how her hair and body moves together through the sequencing. Wish I had an animation program so I could see if I'm doing alright. :\

Adobe Photoshop CS1.

NYLAK. <333

Looks great to me. Only thing is, you should probably practice Katara with her hair down, because she doesn't wear it in a braid anymore. It might actually be easier? *shrug*

Gah, I need to do some practice as well, especially on bending. This project is gonna be tough. But so worth it. :)

PFFFFT. Spoilsport. Don't ruin my fun. >> I like drawing her in her braid when she's bending; it's so flippy! I also hate that they reduced the loopiness of her hair loops in the end. I love the loopies. ;__;

...But yeah, I totally only picked this outfit since it's the easiest for me to draw since it's the one I'm most familiar with. X'D I'm going to need so much more practice anyway I figured it didn't really matter.

And yeah, bending is tough to imitate and make it look legit. I've had my eyes glued to the screen for the past few hours trying to memorize her movements for her more frequently-used attacks, but it's really freaking hard, since they never show an entire attack sequence; they keep panning the camera around and cutting it off. I think I want to borrow her water bending scroll to study, since the animators are making it difficult! X'D

Need to go rent me some martial arts movies. *harrumph.*

By "secret project" do you mean the huge Zutarian project? ;) Or are there other secret projects going on in these parts?

Your style is getting so close to Avatar I can taste it. Or something :)

Can't wait to see where you go from here! Though I'm still wishing Sokka was your fav character... lulz

NO ZUTARA SUCKS. D< Blasphemyyyyyy. ...But other than that I seriously can't say or I'll get my ass handed to me.

I think Avatar art would taste yummy. >3> *droolnomnom*

Sokka's...close! He's fun. And I think he'll be fun to draw in the Avatar style, what with his crazy expressions. I seriously cannot draw him realistically, though. Baby steps, I guess. Since I don't think we have an artist focusing on him, I might be trying him in avatar-style after I master drawing Katara so thoroughly that I can draw her while drunk after I've been spun in a circle over a baseball bat fifteen times. ...Yes, I'll be testing this at the first possible opportunity. :]

WHERE DO I SIGN UP FOR THIS MIGHTILY SECRET PROJECT OF AVATARLY LOVE?

"Well that was random." - Toph

I like horses. Horses are good. They are also fun to draw, which is also good. They are also fun to rant about aimlessly, which is very good. Can I help you?

Does this secret project need any writers or editors?
