Artist's Comments

The next in my series of horse paintings based on/inspired by songs, this one inspired by "Desert Rose" by Sting. =D! This one took a lot longer than I thought it would.

Oh, and just so you know, I hate arabians. I don't like their concave faces at all, or their sort of slim, rounded physique. I really have a fetish for heavyset, powerful horses with sort of roman noses. Though their movement is lovely, I just don't like the look of the breed at all, aesthetically. :\ In fact, I find the more "refined" their features, the more I dislike them. I've really cringed at the sight of some well-bred arabs. God. I just hate their faces.

So if its conformation/face isn't particularly arabic, it's because I fucking hate arabs, and my subconscious refused to allow me to draw one true to the breed. >_>;

SO ANYWAYZZZ.

Next one will probably be a kiger mustang based on "Wild Child" by Enya.

Done on Adobe Photoshop CS. Clocked at 10-12 hours.

I dream of rain;
I dream of gardens in the desert sand.
I wake in vain;
I dream of love as time runs through my hand.

I dream of fire;
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire.
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire.

This desert rose;
Each of her veils, a secret promise.
This desert flower;
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this.

And as she turns--
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams.
This fire burns;
I realize that nothing's as it seems.

Sweet desert rose;
This memory of Eden haunts us all.
This desert flower;
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall...

Beautiful.

And to me you didn't get it *that* far off from an Arab's face.

Definately fav worthy.

Hey. Not all Arabs look like swan-necked, broken-nosed giraffe relatives. ;) Different bloodlines have different looks. And Shagya Arabs tend to have a much more solid look to them :) See?---[link] [link]

No, really! I'm sane! Well, that's what the voices tell me...

Oh, oh! Shuuuuunaaaahh!
=P Nah, as an owner of a pure-bred Arabian, and a daughter of a mother who isn't fond of the breed, I do respect your opinion. Yes, there are arabians out there that are just to refined. The heads get too dished and the horses too lankey, but I'm in love with their temperments and just how much more loyal they are to humans (only because of an ancient past). The way they move is also another reason to fall in love, and I would never give up my mare, not even for the stockiest quarter horse, or most-money-earning warmblood.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and in saying that, this image is one of brillent beauty.
I'm in love with all of your horse works (and most of the other pieces in your gallery ;) ) and I can't wait to see more.

An acceptable photographer can take 10 photos, and all of them are good.
A great photographer can take over 100 photos, and only one of them is gorgeous.

Wow, I can see you put a lot of work into this. I'm especially impressed by the detail in his face!
