Goddamn title blanks are too fucking small. *mutter*
WHY YES, I DID FINISH THIS IN ONE DAY.
Sorry. I did this is three sittings over the course of the day. I started at 8:30 this morning, and it's now 11:30. I am EXHAUSTED, but I feel it was worth it. I've never done a horse in this magnitude of digital realism, and I feel it was at least somewhat successful.
I'm making it into a print for valentine's day, I think, so if anyone's interested in a hand-signed print (from myself, not dA, prolly), I may try to figure out a reasonable price...since I'm making one for myself and possibly a friend of mine, as well.
Oh, yes; this is inspired by KT Turnstall's "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree." Great song. If I were the singer, I'd have married him. =3
Done on Adobe Photoshop CS. Clocked at 8-9 hours.
Well my heart knows me better than I know myself So I'm gonna let it do all the talking. I came across a place in the middle of nowhere With a big black horse and a cherry tree.
I felt a little fear upon my back He said "Don't look back, just keep on walking," When the big black horse said, "Hey lady!" Said, "Look this way, will you marry me?"
But I said no, you're not the one for me.
And my heart hit a problem, in the early hours, So I stopped it dead for a beat or two. But I cut some cord, and I shouldn't have done it, And it won't forgive me after all these years
So I sent it to a place in the middle of nowhere With a big black horse and a cherry tree. Now it won't come back, 'cause it's oh so happy And now I've got a hole for the world to see
And it said no, you're not the one for me.
Big black horse and a cherry tree... I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me.

Though we're dead a thousand years, still men can see how beautiful you were; I, how much duller, and yet how far from a fool in loving you... Michelangelo
When I saw this on the front page as a newly submitted....I fell in love. The shine on this horse is incredible....I also love this tree. Excellent piece. I am going to run to your gallery now.
Definitly one of your most compelling pieces yet. The color is excellent, so is the horses conformation. I especially love those "wrinkles" on his neck, as he turns. Very realistic.
Maybe picking out a few more strands of hair in the tail to make it even more realistic, and adding highlights to those strands.
You... inspire... me.... w0w.... The luster of that horse, the sheen on the grass, the beautiful contrasting pink flowers.... The EVERYTHING! You probably already realize this by now, but you are extremely talented and really do inspire many people, myself included, with each piece you submit. You're doodle of this on the WIP was quite amusing by the way :3 <3
We love horses, we love drawing, we love gifts, AND we love Christmas. We're gonna combine all that to make Christmas 2009 on dA a seriously awesome one!
